TQCSI Celebrates Office Re-opening

The Bates Group of Companies, TQCSI and JLB are celebrating their newly renovated office space this week after a 3 month, top to bottom renovation and modernisation of their 20 year old office block in Hendon, Adelaide.
During a regular monthly meeting, a unanimous decision was made to get a new coffee machine for the office, worth around $600. However, the planning and logistics for the coffee machine quickly spiralled out of control, leading to a complete overhaul of the office to the value of $600,000, rather ironically. Some of the larger changes to the modernised office space include; a new training room, complete interior re-design, new air conditioning, all new furniture, state of the art teleconferencing equipment to be used for TQCSI to meet virtually with Regional Offices in countries throughout the world, and of course, a great new coffee machine.

The Re-opening Ceremony on Monday showed many prominent SA business leaders attending to witness the Hon. Chris Schacht, who first opened Quality House 20 years ago, and John Bates on his 85th birthday, unveil the plaque.

The re-opening signifies nearly 30 years in business and humble beginnings for the Bates Group of Companies, who were established following a demand from the business community for a local, customer focused company to assist in third party certification. Since then, JLB and TQCSI have been heavily involved in the Adelaide business community, setting the industry benchmark for quality auditing and systems services. TQCSI now operates in 40 countries throughout the world.

TQCSI ACCREDITED TO ISO 55001 – ASSET MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Revised Standards - ISO 22000

A new version of ISO 22000 for food safety is now at the DIS (draft international stage) – it is in the new High Level Structure format.

So is ISO 9004 (Quality management – Quality of an organisation – Guidance to achieve sustained success) – it provides a framework, which can assist organizations achieve ongoing success through identifying strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvements or change.

There’s even a new standard for management consultants - ISO 20700 (Guidelines for management consultancy services) aims to increase transparency and effectiveness for both client and consultancy – it gives practical guidelines based on outcomes and emphasizes the importance of understanding clients’ needs.

Information Security

TQCSI (China) 1000th Certification

Congratulations to TQCSI (China), who has achieved their 1000th certification! Based in Shanghai, TQCSI (China) was only established 18 months ago and has very quickly grown into a professional and high achieving TQCSI Regional Office.

ISO/IEC 17021-3:2017

ISO/IEC 17021-3:2017 (Conformity assessment—Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems—Part 3: Competence requirements for auditing and certification of quality management systems) was published 14 March 2017. It defines the competency criteria requirements for QMS auditors over and above those for any auditor defined in ISO 17021-1.

ISO 45001 NOT FAR AWAY

ISO met in Vienna in last month to address changes requested to the new ISO 45001 and develop the 2nd draft version for OHS.

We now expect ISO DIS2 45001 to be released later this month and a ballot to be held in May 2017. ISO will meet again 18 September 2017 and, based on the ballot’s results of that ballot, either:

• Publish ISO 45001 in October/November 2017, or
• If a FDIS is required (as is likely), publish it for further comment and ISO 45001 would not be published until March 2018.

OHS Leaders Summit 2017

Join TQCSI President, Craig Bates, where he will be hosting a roundtable discussion on ‘OHS management systems and ISO 45001’ held on the Gold Coast from 15-16 March 2017. You can visit http://ohsleaders.com.au to register your interest.

ISO 45001 Delayed Again

The ISO Working Group responsible for publishing the new ISO 45001 Standard for OHS met earlier in November and have decided a 2nd Draft document will be required for countries to consider following 3, 000 comments received on the 1st Draft. Consequently, the earliest time frames are now:

• May 2017 – release of DIS2 45001 for comment
• Nov 2017 – release of FDIS 45001 (if comments on the 2nd Draft are limited – don’t hold your breath!)
• Mar 2018 – publication of ISO 45001 (if FDIS is required and released in about Nov 17).

AS/NZS ISO 14001:2016

AS/NZS ISO 14001:2016 has finally been published – 6/10/16! It is exactly the same as ISO 14001:2015.

Due to the confusion with version dates resulting from Standards Australia’s inability to publish the AS/NZS versions of ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 in the same year as the ISO Standards, TQCSI and most other credible certification bodies will certify clients against the respective international Standard, ie ISO 9001:2015 & ISO 14001:2015 in lieu of the AS/NZS Standard. There is no requirement for the AS/NZS versions to be purchased.”

ISO CERTIFICATES STATISTICS RELEASED

The number of ISO management system standard certificates worldwide as at 31 December 2015 has now been published as follows:

• ISO 50001 – 11,985 (77%)
• ISO 27001 – 27,536 (20%).

LATEST STANDARDS NEWS

• The revision of ISO/IEC TS 17021-2, Competence requirements for auditing and certification of environmental management systems passed its Draft International Standard (DIS) ballot in September, and is expected to be published early in 2017.

• The revision of ISO 19011 is about to kick off through a joint working group (JWG) between a new specifically established ISO Project Committee (PC) 302 and ISO’s Policy Committee on Conformity Assessment (ISO/CASCO). This will take at least a couple of years to complete.

• ISO/CASCO is about to start the development of ISO/IEC 17029, Conformity assessment – General requirements for bodies performing validation and verification activities. This will be the overarching standard for conformity assessment bodies that offer validation and verification services, including for technical fields where counting, calculation and data modelling/management is a large component, such as greenhouse gases, life cycle assessment etc.

ISO 45001 DELAYED

Australia/New Zealand Standards

ISO 9001:2015, Quality management systems, has now been published as an Australian/New Zealand Standard, AS/NZS ISO 9001:2016. Because Standards Australia was unable to publish the 2015 version expeditiously, we now have the confusing situation where the Australian Standard is 2016 and the International Standard is 2015 – what a pity!

The same ridiculous situation will be the case for ISO 14001:2015, Environmental management systems, which was published in September 2015 but Standards Australia has yet to publish it.

TQCSI - Quality Assurance Framework auditing

TQCSI is listed as a jobactive supplier for the Department of Employment auditing against the Quality Assurance Framework (QAF) principles. Following the successful audit of MADEC Australia, the Quality Framework Team approved our report with no revisions required.

Since this audit, the Department of Employment is now using TQCSI’s report as a benchmark to represent the standard of reporting requirements for future QAF audits.

This is an outstanding achievement and congratulations to all involved! We look forward to undertaking more QAF audits.

The revised standard ISO 9001:2015 has now been published. TQCSI is offering a half day transition course to identify the changes made and the new requirements.

ISO Standards Transition Training

TQCSI and the South Australian Oyster Growers' Association

As of this morning, the South Australian State Government is supporting the development of a new third party certification that will showcase the premium credentials of South Australia’s oyster industry. The South Australian Oyster Growers’ Association (SAOGA) has received $25,000 in State Government funding for its oyster industry project, through Round 1 of the Building South Australia’s Premium Food and Wine Credentials grant program.

SAOGA will partner with TQCSI to develop the TQCSI SA Oyster Growers Association Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) Code.

New ISO Standards - Main Changes

ISO 9001:2015 & ISO 14001:2015 are now expected to be published after September 2015. The current Draft International Standards (DIS) won’t actually be voted on to become Final Draft International Standards (FDIS) until between May and Aug 15, and then the vote to become ISO Standards will not occur until at least September. Once published, there will be a honeymoon period of 3 years for businesses to meet any requirements of the new Standards (three years).

The main changes to ISO 9001 are that the Standard is based on the new ISO Standards Framework (Annex SL) and there are three core concepts:
- Process approach (consistent products/services)
- PDCA methodology (to processes and the system)
- Risk based thinking to prevent issues.

The main changes to ISO 14001 are:
- The Standard is based on the new ISO Standards Framework (Annex SL)
- A clearer direction for not polluting
- A greater emphasis on environmental performance
- Introduction of life cycle thinking.
